Madrid to 'abandon' Alexander-Arnold pursuit
eal Madrid will R reportedly 'abandon' a January pursuit of Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold in the hope of signing him for free next summer.
According to The Telegraph, Madrid are ready to 'abandon' a January move for Alexander-Arnold as Liverpool are 'unlikely' to part company with him in early 2025. The Reds are trying to retain the services of the 26-year-old, whose contract expires next summer, but at present, he is no closer to signing a new deal.
Madrid are in the market for a new right-back as Dani Carvajal is sidelined for the long term with a cruciate ligament injury. Even though the Spaniard is potentially out for the season, Los Blancos are reportedly not prepared to fork out a hefty sum for Alexander-Arnold in January.
Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al- Khelaifi confirms that they are not planning to go after Liverpool star Mohamed Salah next summer.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Al- Khelaifi said, "It's not true. He's a fantastic and amazing player, but we've never considered him, to be honest. We know every club would love to have him, but this rumour about us is simply not true. If there's an opportunity, we will of course explore." Meanwhile, Liverpool have reportedly failed to make a breakthrough in contract talks with defender Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The England international is one of three key
players out of contract at the end of the season, along with Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah. Alexander-Arnold has been heavily linked with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid despite recently admitting that he is 'living the dream' at Liverpool.
